I am in charge of the design, layout, typesetting and manufacture of American Currents, the quarterly publication of the North American Native Fishes Association (NANFA). (I am also an editor.) In addition to working with many color photos in each issue, I must create sometimes complicated tables, charts, maps and other graphics. Authors often supply low quality or copyrighted maps that I must redraw. The tables above show different ways to use color and layout to convey data and information about the data simultaneously.
